Patient Screening
1. The mother of a 6-month-old infant calls the office requesting an appointment for her child. She advises that she thinks the childââ¬â¢s head appears swollen and that there are areas that appear to be bulging. What is your response regarding the appointment? Based on the symptoms the mother has given, my diagnosis would be that the child could possibly suffer from the condition hydrocephalus. The symptoms which she described such as, swollen head, and bulging areas of the head share some of the same symptoms as hydrocephalus.Hydrocephalus is also more likely to occur during the infant stage, so the child is also within the likely age rage (6 months). I would advise the mother for prompt assessment (to be seen within 24hrs). In addition, schedule her for the next available appointment in the doctorââ¬â¢s office. 2. The mother of a 3-year-old boy calls to report her child had the onset of vomiting and abdominal pain during the night and is now experiencing blood in his urine. She says she just noticed a swelling on his left side toward his back. She requests and appointment. What is your response regarding the appointment? My diagnosis in this case would be that the child possibly suffers from Wilmââ¬â¢s tumor. The child is displaying symptoms such as mass in kidney region (swollen on the back left side), hematuria (urine in the blood), pain in the abdomen, and vomiting. Wilmââ¬â¢s Tumor occurs in children usually under 5 years of age, and this child is 3 years of age (within likely age range). I would advise the mother for prompt assessment, and schedule the next available doctorââ¬â¢s appointment. 3. The mother of a 15-day-old infant son reports that he started having episodes of vomiting with the emesis ââ¬Å"shooting out of his mouthâ⬠after feeding. She also reports the infant appears hungry, continues to feed, and has not gained any weight. How do you respond to this call? After listening to the mother describe her infants symptoms, it is possible that her son suffers from Congenital Pyloric Stenosis. The child has projectile vomiting which means he should be seen promptly. However, other symptoms the child exhibits include staying hungry and not gaining weight. Child is 15 days old and symptoms appear around 2-3 weeks of age. I would advise the mother for prompt assessment, and schedule the next available appointment in the doctorââ¬â¢s office.4. Just as the office is closing for the day, a mother calls about her child who just started experiencing signs and symptoms of respiratory distress including hoarseness; fever; a harsh, high-pitched cough; and a funny, high-pitched sound during inspiration. The physician has already left the office for the day. How do you handle this call? From the symptoms the mother has described about her child it is possible her child could be suffering from croup. Symptoms include hoarseness, high-pitched cough, and fever. Iââ¬â¢d advise the mother for immediate evaluation and to take her child to the ER. 5.A mother calls to report that her three children have been complaining of being fatigued, having headaches, and stomach, muscle, and joint pain for the last 2 weeks. She also states there has been a significant change in their behavior. How do you handle this call? My diagnosis in this case would be that her children possibly have tetanus. Her children are displaying signs of irritability and joint stiffness, along with many other symptoms that sound like tetanus. Signs such as, fatigue, head and stomachaches and muscle pain, could be spasms. I would advise mother for immediate evaluation, for the mother to take her children to the ER. Patient Screening 1. Brutus as a Tragic Hero
Julius Caesar is regarded as one of William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s greatest works of literature. It is mainly based on is mainly based on the assassination of Julius Caesar. Brutus, a servant and close friend to Julius Caesar. was ironically the ringleader for Caesarââ¬â¢s assassination. Brutus thinks that if he assassinates Julius Caesar he will be doing what was best for Rome. In this play, Brutus is often referred to as the tragic hero. According to Aristotle, a tragic hero must be noble, demonstrate hubris, demonstrates hamartia, and experiences an epiphany.Brutus fits Aristotleââ¬â¢s definition of a tragic hero since he has all of the characteristics. A tragic hero requires be noble. Shakespeare made Brutus noble in this play by making him always wanting to do what is best for Rome. He incorporates that by making Rome Brutusââ¬â¢s top priority. When Brutus was discussing the assassination with the other assassins, he states, ââ¬Å"No, not on oath. If not the face of men, the sufferance of our souls, the timeââ¬â¢s abuseââ¬â if these be motives weak, break off betimes, and every man hence to his idle bed.So let high-sighted tyranny rage on till each man drop by lotteryâ⬠¦ â⬠(2. 1. 124-9). Brutus explains how the current state of Rome is strong enough to hold themselves together rather than swearing to each othersââ¬â¢ loyalty. He proves his nobility by saying how the sadness and suffering of the Romans including themselves should not only be their motivation to assassinate Caesar, but should also be creating a brotherhood amongst them. In other words, Brutus believes that a Romanââ¬â¢s word should be their loyalty rather than swearing on it.Shakespeare also shows Brutusââ¬â¢s nobility indirectly when Caesar was being assassinated. Before Caesar died, he looked to over to Brutus and he said, ââ¬Å"Et tu , Brute? ââ¬â Then fall Caesar! â⬠(3. 1. 85). ââ¬Å"Et tu, Bruteâ⬠means ââ¬Å"Even you, Brutusâ⬠in Latin, and this shows that Caesar knows that there must be a noble purpose if Brutus was involved. In that manner, this quote also shows Caesarââ¬â¢s respect for Brutus as a person. If the dictator of Rome respects his servant, than the servant must be noble to his empire, thus, Brutus is a noble person. Not only do tragic heros need to be noble, but they also have to demonstrate hubris. Hubris is excessive pride or self-confidence. Brutus shows his excessive pride and confidence is when he acted on his decisions rather than others. For example, when Brutus assassinated Caesar, Mark Antony wanted to create a speech at his funeral. Cassius tries to tell Brutus what could go wrong, but Brutus stubbornly says, ââ¬Å"I will myself into the pulpit first and show the reason of our Caesarââ¬â¢s deathâ⬠¦ It shall advantage more than do us wrongâ⬠(2. . 257-63). Brutus doesnââ¬â¢t even consider what Cassius has told him. It is as if he already decided not to listen to Cass iusââ¬â¢s since he thinks his thought is superior. Another example of Brutusââ¬â¢s self-confidence was before the battle of Brutus and Cassius against Mark Antony and Octavian. Brutus asks Cassius on the opinion of if they should attack the enemies or wait for them. Cassius thinks it would be better to wait for the enemies, but Brutus says, ââ¬Å"Good reasons must of force give place to betterâ⬠¦The enemy, marching along by them, by them shall make a fuller number up, come on refreshed, new added, and encouraged; from which advantage we cut him off if at Philippi we do face him there, those people at our backâ⬠(4. 3. 233-42). Brutus explains that good reasons give away for better ones. He also explained how the enemies will gain more soldiers for their army on the way to them, but they could nullify that advantage by going towards them. Although Brutus provides a reason to why his claim is better than Cassiusââ¬â¢s claim, he still gives the impression that he is superior to Cassius.Brutusââ¬â¢s hubris can also give the impression that he thinks better about than himself than he does others. Either way, this causes Brutus problems. Tragic heroes normally suffer hamartia as a result of their hubris. Hamartia is another word for tragic flaw. Brutus demonstrates hamartia in his naivety. One way this was demonstrated was when Brutus was discussing the assassination and they wanted Cicero to get involved. Cassius, Casca, Cinna and Metellus all believed that Cicero should be involved to. Once Brutus made his decision, he stated, ââ¬Å"O name him [Cicero] not!Let us not break with him, for he will never follow anything that other men beginâ⬠(2. 1. 161-3). Brutus did not even speak persuasively; he just exclaimed his opinion and everyone agreed with him all of a sudden. This shows that the Cassius, Casca, Cinna and Metellus might be just trying to use Brutus to get rid of Caesar. Another way Brutus demonstrates hamartia is him being manipu lated too easily. Cassius flattered Brutus and Brutus let the compliments get to him. One example is when Cassius compared Brutusââ¬â¢s and Caesarââ¬â¢s names.Cassius tries to flatter Brutus by saying, ââ¬Å"The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings. ââ¬ËBrutus,ââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËCaesar. ââ¬â¢ What should be in that ââ¬ËCaesar? ââ¬â¢ Why should that name be sounded more than yours? â⬠(1. 2. 149-53) Cassius explains to Brutus that they were the ones to determine their own fate and not the stars. In other words, he is trying to tell Brutus they are inferiors at their own will. This gives an impression that Cassius is trying to make Brutus feel guilty about himself. Then Cassius attempts to fire up Brutus by saying that his name is equally capable of ruling Rome. The devious Cassius easily manipulates Brutus, and Brutusââ¬â¢s self confidence helped him believe all of Cassiusââ¬â¢s compliments were true. Brutus w ouldnââ¬â¢t know about his tragic flaw until he lost everything. An epiphany is where someone has a sudden realization of something. Aristotle define epiphany in a tragedy where the tragic hero realizes his/her mistake or mistakes made. In Julius Caesar, Brutus had an epiphany when he was getting ready to fight Octavian and Mark Antonyââ¬â¢s army.In the tent discussing his plans with Cassius, he confesses that his wife, Portia, died. Brutus sadly explains: ââ¬Å"She [Portia] is deadâ⬠¦ Impatient of my absence, and grief that young Octavius with Mark Antony have made themselves so strongââ¬â for with her death that tidings cameââ¬â with this she fell distract, and (her attendants absent) swallowed fireâ⬠¦ Speak no more of herâ⬠¦ â⬠(4. 3. 171-83). Brutus is upset that his wife is dead and realizes that he dragged her into this mess. He accuses himself for losing the love of his life, and this creates a sensation of pity. This is the turning point in the play where Brutus starts to believe that killing Caesar was not right. Brutus also experiences an epiphany at the end of the story, after his defeat against Mark Antony and Octavian. Having lost everything, Brutus decides to murder himself. Brutusââ¬â¢s final words were, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ Caesar, now be still. I killed not thee with half so good a willâ⬠(5. 5. 56-7). With these meaningful last words, Brutus creates a sense of pity for himself. Brutus was never sure of whether he should have killed Caesar or not, and he proves it with these words. To kill himself ââ¬Å"with half so good a willâ⬠he gives the impression to where he is curious about what the condition would Rome be like with Caesar still in power. Aristotle's definition of a tragedy seems to fit all the tragedies today. He states that the tragic hero must have the following traits: must be of noble birth, must show excessive pride, must show a tragic flaw, and must learn from his/her mistakes. This universa l map of tragedy fits William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Julius Caesar in a perfect manner. Although one could argue that Brutus is not the tragic hero, he best fits Aristotleââ¬â¢s definition of a tragic hero in Julius Caesar.
Circles in a Circle by Vasily Kandinsky Term Paper
Circles in a Circle by Vasily Kandinsky - Term Paper Example The essay "Circles in a Circle by Vasily Kandinsky" explores the work of art Circles in a Circle by Vasily Kandinsky. The paper also considers how Circles is not an offbeat experimental work within Kandinskyââ¬â¢s broad oeuvres. He developed a unique style, whereby, he tried to reign in his artistic imagination within the structure of geometry. The work has several features that were deemed novel upon their introduction. One of the prominent features is the usage of perfect geometric forms. Conventional aesthetic sense had it that mellifluous and obtuse curves comprised the grammar of the art. But what Kandinskyââ¬â¢s art achieved was to open up a new idea of aesthetic. Under this new sensibility, the precision of mathematics is shown to have a place in visual arts. When we search for socio-cultural analogies, there are parallels to the compositional technique of Johann Sebastian Bach. Experts widely accede to the mathematical element behind the composerââ¬â¢s technique. One could read Circles within a Circle as a tribute to the musical genius from the Baroque era. At once, it is also an experiment to test if an idea could be transposed across art forms. Given the rich legacy of appreciation that Kandinskyââ¬â¢s Circles has drawn over the centuries, it is fair to claim that the experimentation has been a success. The great Italian polymath set forth an intellectual tradition wherein science and art were closely connected. Circles is also strikingly representative of Nicholas Copernicusââ¬â¢ illustrations of the order of the Universe.

Colon Cancer in Tissue Engineering Literature review
Colon Cancer in Tissue Engineering - Literature review Example The reason being that reconstructive surgery does not replace the biological functioning of an organ or tissue 4. Medical researchers have had to be innovative. Their innovation has led to tissue engineering (TE), which is the initiation of the regeneration of organs and tissues by taking advantage of the individualââ¬â¢s self-healing capability 5. Normally, tissue engineering purposes to control cells to trigger the regrowth of the respective tissue 6. A process that is termed as therapeutic because it replaces the biological role of the damaged or malfunctioning tissues or organs 7. What does TE involve? TE comprises of the artificial stimulation of the capacity of cell differentiation, synthesis, and increase 8. It utilizes two tactics. The transplantation of cells 9 and the use of biomaterials and biomedical machinery 10. In the utilization of biomaterials and associated technologies, there needs to be the creation of in vivo like conditions. What is the purpose of these in vivo like conditions? The in vivo like environment is developed to ensure that the cells are able to boost their differentiation and proliferation to a sufficient standard that allows the biological capability of tissue regrowth 11. Hence, a cell-manipulated natural healing of the particular organ and tissue is attained without the need of transplanting cells. In addition, transplantation of cells is undertaken by transferring cells that have a huge capability for the differentiation and growth of cells to activate the regeneration of tissue in accordance with its potential 12. In this technique, the transfer is done using the infusion tactic 13 or the bolus injection method 14. However, in the use of biomedical and biomaterial technologies, bio signaling and cell scaffolds techniques have been used to deliver the necessary biomaterials that avail the required conditions for tissue regrowth.

Existentialism Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1
Existentialism - Essay Example This begins with the aspect that religion is a problem that afflicts humanity in daily struggles of life. For example, he asserts that religion has played the fundamental role of brainwashing and confusing people instead of providing light. This suggests that it has stopped being a necessity for humanity in their common endeavors to find meaning. There is also a disconnect between religion and nature that affects the existence of human beings amicably (Nishitani 339). This means that religion has a contradictory spectrum that conflicts with its necessity for the masses especially the poor. The writer makes some implications that people can always do without religion in their regular roles and responsibilities. This is through seeking the purpose of religion and aligning it with the essential needs of humanity especially in the understanding of life. Learning and arts in some aspects are not necessities as viewed by humanity in the context of sociological indoctrination. For example, in existentialism, the concept of the absurd affirms that humanity has nothing to gain from the world except the meaning they attach to its happenings. Additionally, the concept continues to add that there is a lot of meaningless in most of the things people value. This is also reflected in the futility of life whereby tragic events occur at the split of seconds without any warning (Nishitani 340). Therefore, the obsession with arts and learning in the context of education should be dissociated with the meaning of life to help humanity cope. Alternatively, even in the concept of authenticity in existentialism, it is upon the individual to find him/herself without making attachments to creations of other human beings. This suggests that a person should exercise his freedoms according to his wishes without getting affected by the demands of humanity. There are several consequential effects of attempting to force religion in the view of its purpose for the masses. This implies that it is a case of futility in attempting to understand the meaning of religion because it is not a necessity. It is also sociologically incorrect to subject it an existentialistic argument because it is devoid of human appeal. Another perspective deals with the issue of evaluating the merits and demerits of religion because it is also useless. This is because the seeking of religious quest leads to confusion in the search of the meaning of life. In other words, according to most of the existentialism concepts, there is no rationality in reaching decisions based on things defined by man (Nishitani 340). These include religious devotion and its eventual evaluation to derive some of meaning for humanity. It also connotes the sense of anger and despair in human beings on things that lack meaning in their daily existence. Religious quest is also paramount in terms of helping people to define themselves within the broader spectrums of nature. However, there are certain conflicting obstacles th at deter people from attaining the level of religious horizon or pinnacle. This is known to breed a sense of nihility and the questioning of self-being through doubts and indecisive moments (Nishitani 341). Therefore, in Nishitaniââ¬â¢s assumptions, the ways become unblocked through the comprehension of nihility in its sense of unblocking the sense of self. The author defines nihility as a thing that attaches meaninglessness to the

Joseph Papp(Theatrical Producer) Research Paper
Joseph Papp(Theatrical Producer) - Research Paper Example At the age of twelve years, Papp had already learned a gig as a soprano boy at a Sephardic synagogue in Brooklyn. Since then, he developed an interest in theatre, and to him intolerance was a greater threat than poverty (Horn 21). He was also the pioneer of the New York Shakespeare Festival and the public Theatre and he was the most important person in the American theatre during the second phase of the 20th century. Although he was not so good a student in academic work, Joseph Papp went to the Actors Laboratory Theatre College, which was situated in Hollywood where he studied acting and directing from the year 1946 to 1948. With the help of his teachers, he was able to feel a strong urge for Shakespeare (Horn 23). This made him to get a position as an assistant stage director of the national touring company of an Arthur Millers ââ¬Å"Death of a salesman,â⬠(Ullom, 24) two years after graduating from the Actors Laboratory Theatre. He started the New York Shakespeare Festival a fter working for closely to two years as an assistant director for the CBS in New York City. The New York Festival that he started became so different organization from other theatrical institutions in that it was able to provide free and unrestricted presentations and performances of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s dramas across different places within the New York City, comprising the outdoor production at the Central Park. When the company was given the Delacorte Theatre as their lasting base, JosephPapp worked for a long time with little pay just to make sure that he established the festival by remaining the decision maker of the festival while producing and directing most of the dramas and plays by himself (Epstein 33). Papp later started again the New York Shakespeare Festival Public Theatre, in 1967, whose primary function was to look upon modern and tentative dramas. The majority of its productions in the end travelled to
